Stories that make you smile, laugh, cry or think - wonder tales, faerie tales, mysterious tales: a story only comes to life when it is told and shared - and so it is passed onto others, through the years and across great physical distances. Jumana Moon is a storyteller with a great love of stories, tales, myths & legends of all kinds and has been collecting stories since childhood. They are, she says 'her favourite things'. She is particularly inspired by stories from her Islamic faith: stories from sacred text, folk tales and stories from the tradition of devotional poetry such as Rumi, Jami' & Nizami. The wise trickster/ foolish wiseman Nasrudeen also makes many appearances in Jumana's storytelling. Jumana has a special love of stories which emphasise the feminine voice and stories of the natural world.
Jumana tells 3 solo full length pieces: ‘Crazy in Love:the Story of Layla & Majnun’; “Necklace of Pearls: Stories of the Female Sahaba’ and ‘Tariqa: stories form the earth of Islam’. These are often told in collaboration with musicians Julia Katerina & Abdullah Mufa.
Jumana also works with storyteller Adele Moss and together they offer two full length Muslim-Jewish storytelling pieces: 'Woven Threads & Torn Fabric - the story of Yosef & Zuleikha' and 'Midwives of Freedom: the Women of Exodus'.
Jumana is a UKCP registered Integrative Child Psychotherapist, working therapeutically with the arts & play in primary schools in north London. She also co-runs a monthly storytelling club in Walthamtsow, called Stowtellers.
